About the Artist
Avan Omer was born in Sulaimania, South Kurdistan, where she graduated from the University of Fine Arts in 2004. Avan explores a variety of different subject matters through a number of different frameworks and modalities . Her work can be interpreted as a description of the body, as a commentary on culture generally and on gender particularly. Her work can also be interpreted through the concept of space as her installation works depend on the viewer to inhabit the surrounding space to complete the effect. She continuous to work in group in a number of projects and workshops, and on solo shows that are exhibited in different locations in Kurdistan, the Netherlands, and France. Currently she is a student in the Dutch Art Institute (DAI), ArtEZ Master of Fine Art in Arnhem, 2014 – 2017.
